Shorts Review: Dragon Ball Z Abridged Episode 40

So, I hear you like fusing slugs…

Spoilers!

So, the epic screaming continues after 18 broke Vegeta’s arm. Trunks has the idiotic idea to go fight the androids, but ends up breaking his sword on 18’s arm. This brings Tien and Piccolo down, but they end up getting smashed in by 17. Luckily, 17 gives Tien a chance to live by explaining to him why they should live, while getting choked, of course. Witnessing the beating, Krillin decides to wait until Goku shows up. However, when he mentions Goku, 16 darts a look over to him. Krillin quacks, making 16 believe that he may be a duck, which makes 16 smile. A bird then lands onto his hand, who is named Toriyama. Toriyama says he has a dinosaur, and 16 wants to see it, until he finds out what the dino does.

Piccolo has a talk, inside his head with Nail, and decides to get up to fight. The problem is, 17 is able to multitask. So, Piccolo ends up getting beat, while Tien is still choked out. 18 walks over to Vegeta, taunts him some more, and breaks his other arm. I couldn’t help but to laugh at Vegeta’s pterodactyl screech here. With Vegeta, Trunks, Tien, and Piccolo defeated, the two androids start to argue about who has better hair, when Krillin decided to say something. The androids fly to him, where Krillin concedes to being as threatening as a cocker spaniel. 16 agrees that they shouldn’t kill Goku, but he wants to. 18 kisses Krillin, calling his terrible attempt to stop them cute, and the androids fly off.

Krillin fixes everyone with his magical bag of senzu beans, and Vegeta flies off in rage. Trunks starts to fly off, but Piccolo tells him to quit it after Piccolo tells him “Well, at least he isn’t trying to kill us again.” Krillin, in his terrible way of inferring, makes Piccolo fly off in rage. Piccolo tells Nail that he may be getting a roommate. Meanwhile, at Capsule Corp, Gohan finally delivers Bulma, baby Trunks, and Yajirobe to Capsule Corp. Yajirobe’s introduction to Bulma’s mother was hilarious here! Bulma then asks why her mom doesn’t age, and the answer is priceless: Dr. Briefs won’t let her. Piccolo makes it to Kami’s lookout, and Popo apparently drops a gallon of LSD. Yes, a literal gallon, out of a milk jug. Piccolo tries to sweet talk Kami into fusing back into one being, in his own special way. Kami then gives us an ominous look into a bigger threat to end the episode.

This episode definitely has that “lull before the storm” feel that every big fight sequence has on this show. This feeling is amplified because of Cell coming in either the next episode, or the one after. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of funny spots, and the ones that were are very few and far between. The funniest part of this episode actually happens after the episode ends in the extra stuff. Korin tried to ask if Piccolo saw Yajirobe during the episode. After the episode, we get one of the funniest moments from this series. I’m not sure TFS is playing Korin as a gay Jewish man, but whatever they characterize him as works.  This is worth watching by itself, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they make this into a short sometime later. This episode fell flat in spots, but it wasn’t a total loss.

Error happened.
