Review: Bob’s Burgers ‘My Big Fat Greek Bob’
Spoilers Below
As BubbleBlabber’s foremost expert in Bob’s Burgers (according to myself) it’s about time I was given a crack at reviewing this fine animated program. So let’s crack away. (I should probably change that last sentence… Ah, screw it. )
In last night’s episode, Bob took a part-time job helping out as a cook in a fraternity, and met the geeky Pud, Turd, Hefty Jeff, and their eldest frat brother, Slowhand (a.k.a. Dr. Yap, the family dentist.) When Bob helped the younger bros pull of a retaliation prank against a rival frat, they accepted him as one of their own, much to the chagrin of Yap. However, the deranged doctor turned out to have made the whole prank war up, and was eventually ousted from the group after attempting to get needless revenge on the innocent men.
Meanwhile, Linda decided to help out a friend by hosting a “Lady Goods Party,” but was shocked to find out that the goods were actually sex toys – especially since she invited the kids to join. Of course, each of them got a good line before they were kicked out, especially Louise’s: “I don’t know what that thing is, but the look on Mom’s face is hilarious! I’ll buy it!” But as it turned out, Linda was quite the saleswoman, and continued to help out her friend – even hosting an event in the restaurant.
Whether it was the squareness of the frat brothers (“I can’t drive at night, because I don’t have a car”) or watching Bob party with them (and sing Alanis Morissette) this episode was just a lot of fun. This fact was also helped by two big things: First, as Bob’s Burgers gets more and more popular, the number of guest stars is rapidly increasing. Last week we saw (or heard) Will Forte, and this week we got Ken Jeong, Dana Snyder (a.k.a. Master Shake!), Kurt Braunohler, Hannibal Buress, and Jonathan Katz. With a cast like that (in addition to the already brilliant regular cast of Bob’s Burgers) you simply can’t lose. Second, these hilarious guest characters were helped by the fact that the kids (which I’ll say time & time again are the strength of the show) got into both storylines. Plus, what two things compliment pubescent Tina better than a vibrator party and a bunch of nerdy frat guys? Sure, the overall college storyline was a bit cliché and overused, but the muscle of the show’s cast and snappy writing helped bring it up to an amusing and enjoyable level.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
