ARE EMMY NOMINEES SELECTED UNFAIRLY?? ANIMATION EXEC PRODUCERS SAY “YES”

In news that I couldn’t care less about, a bunch of animation producers got together and wrote a scathing letter to the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Basically, they are all pissed because the animation producers and writers want to be able to submit their programs into multiple categories ala the popular series Community. You see, Community is able to submit in categories for animation, writing, AND comedy series where as shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons, and others only get to submit in categories for animation AND comedy series.

To help combat this, a bunch of showrunners got together and wrote the letter and includes names such as Al Jean(The Simpsons), David X. Cohen(Futurama), and Seth MacFarlane(Family Guy) all of whom feel strongly about this issue. The Academy has actually answered back and offered their own thoughts on how they selected Community to hopefully win an award on a live broadcast that no one really watches anyway. What I couldn’t help but notice is the lack of support from showrunners that aren’t on programs associated with 20th Century FOX.

Notable names NOT on the list include Matt Stone and Trey Parker from South Park, Adam Reed and Matt Thompsons from Archer, and really anyone from Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Disney, and others. This is not to say I’m on anyone’s side as I can definitely see the point the show runners are trying to convey, my question is….its the Emmys. Do people still care?

Check out the letters written on both sides over on Deadline.com as I could certainly have posted both letters but I won’t watch the Emmys anyway.
