Review: Squidbillies ”Ink Is Thicker Than Blood, Which Is Thicker Than Water”
Spoilers Below
Rusty works hard, but Early isn’t crazy about it despite the fact that it provides for his grandchild. Or is it? Yep, Early starts to question if Rusty is really even a Cuyler because Tammy’s like a doorknob…everyone gets a turn. Shit, even Denny gets in on the action! As a result, Early takes Rusty on over to Tammy’s and steals back his kid which leads to Denny calling for some backup. Unfortunately, the Sheriff is useless in helping get the kid back for Tammy, but God Damn it, Rusty wants a DNA test! The sample comes back, but Rusty doesn’t want to hear it! He’s Randy’s dad which evidently is true because this kid’s got tentacles!
Certainly, we get the best episode of Maury that YOU’VE ever seen. However, we had a lot of lull between big scenes in this week’s episode of Squidbillies which generally had me lose interest on who the hell the father is. That said, we haven’t seen Denny take on an episode by himself in a really, REALLY long time, and it was good to see him back. However, the next time around, I want to see the plot get a bit more seasoning before it get put out to roost.
Short of getting Roiland back, which I'm sure isn't going to happen, I don't even think they could get much better than the new voices from the previous season. And the ratings for season 7 weren't much lower on average than for season 6; it was pretty much just a normal season-to-season drop that most likely would have happened regardless.
I mean, look at the actual averages:
Season 1 - 1.57 million viewers Season 2 - 1.97 million viewers Season 3 - 2.33 million viewers Season 4 - 1.52 million viewers Season 5 - 0.96 million viewers Season 6 - 0.56 million viewers Season 7 - 0.42 million viewers
Ever since season 3, it had been having steep drops even with Roiland still involved; the season 6 to 7 drop is actually the smallest-percentage drop it's had since it started dropping, and if anything it's possible that changing the voice actors actually *boosted* interest a bit and prevented it from dropping even more.
