Rick and Morty Co-Creator Charged With Domestic Abuse.

Justin Roiland was in a pre-trial court hearing today having been charged with felony domestic charges in OC, California. The charges stem from a January 2020 incident which saw Justin and an ex-girlfriend involved in an altercation.

Justin was subsequently arrested, and released in August on a $50,000 bail.  After bail, Justin was arraigned and charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit.

Justin has pleaded not guilty in any of the aforementioned charges and another hearing is set for April 27.

In a statement, Roiland's lawyer wrote that his client is innocent and he expects the case to be dismissed. “We look forward to clearing Justin's name and helping him move forward as swiftly as possible,” attorney T. Edward Welbourn wrote.

As a result of these allegations, 20th Television/Hulu have opted to part ways with Justin Roiland and re-cast the lead character of Korvo starting with the upcoming fifth season which is now in production.

Adult Swim has also opted to part ways with Justin Roiland, tagging co-creator Dan Harmon as sole showrunner, and slated to recast Rick, Morty, MeeSeeks, and more starting with season seven.
