Video: Adult Swim Announces Festival With Run the Jewels as Headline…Does Network Bother With NYCC2018?

Everything we know so far.

Set to run from October 6th through the 7th will be a brand new comedy, music, and entertainment festival from Adult Swim featuring Run the Jewels as the headliners. The group just released a new Rick and Morty-starring video for the event that will take place in Downtown Los Angeles. Weekend passes are available now.

El-P and Killer Mike, two of the most distinctive and celebrated names in rap, might have seemed like an unlikely pairing on paper, but the duo subverted and pulverized all expectations with their critically lauded Run The Jewels in 2013. Tapping into the creative synergy they’d discovered in 2012 on Mike’s R.A.P. Music album (produced by El-P) and El’s Cancer 4 Cure album (featuring Mike), Run The Jewels cemented their musical alliance with a set of uncompromisingly raw, forward-thinking hip-hop, garnering limitless critical accolades including the likes of Rolling StonePitchforkXXLSPINNew York Times, and many more. The duo is currently an opening act for the North America leg of Lorde’s Melodrama World Tour.

Our Take

The one caveat to this announcement? It’s the same weekend as New York Comic Con 2018 which means that chances are the network might not even have anything to present at the fall convention, and if they do, it’s gonna be skeleton crew. Last year only Robot Chicken was in attendance that was probably a split deal with Crackle who was already there for SuperMansion. It may not matter right now because Rick and Morty hasn’t even been picked up for a fourth season just yet.

In any event, Adult Swim’s festival will have to do a bunch to steal some of the thunder brought by the already successful Comedy Central Clusterfest, like something involving these guys…
