ViacomCBS Goes Bananas With South Park For Both Comedy Central And Paramount+

MTV Entertainment Studios announced that they have re-upped the producers of South Park to a new overall deal through 2027 that will see the long-running franchise extended through the show’s 30th season, with season 25 slated to drop sometime in 2022. But, South Park fans need not worry, we’re getting new South Park in 2021.

Later this year, Paramount+ will drop the first two of fourteen ordered South Park “made-for-streaming” movies. ViacomCBS has also announced that international streaming is at 42 million subscribers which is expected to increase exponentially when Paramount+ will be made available on Sky that will see the service roll out in UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria across 2022.  Moreover, PlutoTV has surpassed $1 billion in ad revenue, a service that features both a Comedy Central Animation channel, and, the first ten seasons of South Park available for AVOD streaming.

Thanks to an investment made by HP Investment Partners LLC earlier this year in the amount of $600 million, a new South Park game is in the works along with a documentary and a marijuana company. On top of that HBO MAX paid $500 million to have the exclusive next day streaming rights for new episodes of South Park last year, the success of the show has afforded HBO MAX to invest in a multitude of other adult animation projects including The Prince which premiered last week to much controversy.

Paramount+ has other adult animation on the horizon as well, with next week’s launch of the second season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the Fall 2021 premiere of former South Park producer Brad Neely’s The Harper House.

Update 8/6: Bob’s Burgers actress Kirsten Schaal was a recent guest on The Last Laugh podcast where she talks about her time as a writer on South Park.
