Vernon Chatman Talks Up ‘South Park’ In New Interview But Probably Needs To Save “The Shivering Truth” First

On average, the second season of The Shivering Truth sees a 50% drop-off in viewership despite following Rick and Morty (which, by the way, has also been suffering in the ratings, but we’ll cover that next week). All of this probably as a result of all of the press Adult Swim did to help promote the series like the sole interview Cat Solen did with Collider that nobody listened to. In any event, this isn’t a good sign.

Fortunately, Vernon Chatman’s other series that he works on, South Park, is doing just fine and is expected to return this fall for Comedy Central. In a recent interview with Comicbookmovie.comThe Shivering Truth’s Vernon Chatman talked up South Park and how the world influences the show and, probably, vice versa:

It’s really fun. We have a perspective on the world that is really fun to be a part of. Partially because of the world changes and the way that comedy changes, South Park is one of the few shows that has been grandfathered in outside of a lot of the cultural sniping and kind of shallow comedy fighting about punching up and punching down and what is satire and all these kinds of arguments that I find silly and absurd, and because South Park has played with these elements for so long, its interesting to see that stuff unfold and just kind of toss rocks at the insanity while also pushing our particular voice forward.

With everything going on in the world, right now. We could use a bit more South Park. In the meantime, Vernon’s other series, The Shivering Truth, premieres a new episode this Sunday Night @ Midnight ET/PT, only on Adult Swim, check your local listings.

Synopsis:

“THE SHIVERING TRUTH” is a delicately crafted, darkly surreal anthology comedy. Each episode is a miniature propulsive omnibus cluster bomb of painfully riotous daymares all dripping with the orange goo of dream logic. A series of loosely linked emotional parables about stories within tales that crawled out of the deepest caverns of your unconscious mind and became lovingly animated in breath-slapping stop motion — in other words, it is the TRUTH(squared).
