Variety Streaming Room: Bob’s Burgers Panel Recap

Variety decided to do a check-in on the Bob’s Burgers cast while they continue to deal with the quarantine on the eve of the show’s two hundredth episode. Much was asked about how the cast and crew had been dealing with being apart since the lockdowns took place back in March, and while many were sad they couldn’t work with their friends as closely as they used to, it was generally agreed they were glad to just still have jobs, as animation has been able to continue thriving in remote work despite the pandemic, unlike much live action work which had to shut down production. Kristen Schaal did note that her performance as Mabel may have a bit more spice to it thanks to the aggravaton caused by the isolation though.

As for the milestone the show was about to reach, creator Loren Bouchard described the upcoming episode, “Bob Belcher and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Kids”, as something he hoped could work as a quintessential episode of the series which could even be a second first episode. He emphasized the importance of the first line of the pilot, wherein Bob tells his kids he loves them but that he thinks they are terrible, and going from there. It was also asked what the Belcher children would be like had the show aged them in real time, with their actors having varied answers. Schaal thinks Louise would get more into anime, Eugene Mirman believes Gene would get into stand up comedy, while Dan Mintz thinks Tina would be the one to stay behind to work at the restaurant while possibly learning law at night.

Bob’s Burgers’ 200th episode airs tonight at 8:30 on Fox. Watch this panel here.
