TV News Roundup: Hulu To Leave Optimum ; A&E Networks Disputes With AT&T ; Verizon Gets Youtube TV

The landscape for TV is constantly in a state of flux.

Optimum customers who watch Hulu as part of their services are going to be pissed coming May 1st. If you enjoyed watching Hulu originals on channel 501, you’re going to be disappointed to learn that Hulu will be ending its affiliation with the cable service provider.

Personally, it was nice to be able to just head to a channel instead of changing over my input to that of my PS4, however with Disney recently getting majority ownership of the second largest streaming service in the world, it was most likely a matter of time.

AT&T’s DirecTV is in yet another carriage dispute. This time with A&E Networks, the conglomerate media company that includes History, A&E, Viceland, and a slew of other networks. Like usual, the two sides are bickering over their respective costs which is leading A&E to begin campaigning against DirecTV for subscribers to demand the T-comm giant keeps the aforementioned channels.

Last but not least, Verizon Wireless’ 5G network was lagging behind in cool features when you consider competitor TMobile TVision’s recent announcement. That’s all changing now because Verizon 5G-capable neighborhoods will get Youtube TV free for three months and their choice of a Google Chromecast Ultra or an Apple TV. This is a great deal because Youtube TV just raised their prices to $49.99, so this is a savings of $150 though Apple TV is charging an extra $5 so keep that in mind when picking your freebie. Youtube TV JUST got the Discovery channels as part of its services which as of today is devoid of channels from either the Viacom or AT&T family of services.
