Toonami Goes Full Weeb For April Fools!

You’re already noticing me, Senpai.

NANI?! *head explodes*

Following up their out of nowhere premiere of the first episode of the third season of Rick and Morty, Toonami decided to do the same for their upcoming seasons of FLCL. Though instead of showing what will be OUR Season 2 (FLCL Progressive), they decided to go with Japan’s order, which will start with our Season 3 (FLCL Alternative). And because the states will be getting our airings first, this is means this was the first time the episode aired in any country, AND probably the first time an English SUB has premiered on U.S. Television!

Following that up, along with a Japanese voiced TOM and SARA and review of Nier Automata, was the television premiere of Masaaki Yuasa’s first feature film and directorial debut from 2004, “Mind Games”, which can only be described as ALL OF THE DRUGS in animation form. Yuasa’s come a long way as a director, working on things as recently as the Netflix exclusive anime Devilman Crybaby (which we reviewed earlier this year!).

And once everyone came down from that high, they finished off the night with subbed versions of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Hunter X Hunter, Naruto Shippuden, Space Dandy, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell 2nd GIG, and a replay of their recent short “Scavengers.” Dubbed versions of the first three listed will resume next week.

Toonami is no stranger to surprise awesome April Fool’s Days, as the block returned to everyone’s shock and amazement six years ago on this very day, even though it didn’t make a proper return until May of that year. And personally, I prefer surprises that lead to good things instead of at the prankees expense, so this is all gravy to me!

Hope everyone has a Happy April Fool’s Day, and stay safe out there!
