This Week In Viral: “The Simpsons” ; “Bob’s Burgers” ; “Family Guy”

Viewers had tons of fun watching all-new episodes of The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy, with all three FOX series having moments that went a bit viral since they’ve aired. Let’s dig in!

This week’s episode of Family Guy was by far the most bizarre of the season. Entitled “You Can’t Handle the Booth”, the episode was a fun take on Family Guy featuring both the characters, and eventually the voices that voice them, take part in a DVD commentary. Ironically enough, however, it was probably the bits and pieces of the actual show that got the most laughs with fans somewhat divided over the audio-only scenes going down while another episode was going on with it. This scene featuring the “Alien” Queen decapitating Sarah Paulson shows us that the series is NOT afraid to go there. Check it out:

Entering its 16th season, FAMILY GUY continues to entertain its die-hard fan base with razor-sharp humor, spot-on parodies, spectacular animation and orchestra-backed original music. Since its debut in 1999, the series has reached cult status among fans, and its breakout star, a talking baby, has become one of the greatest TV characters of all time. FAMILY GUY has racked up numerous awards, including an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, only the second animated series in television history to be honored with such a distinction. Cast member Alex Borstein (voice of “Lois Griffin”) recently won the 2018 Emmy Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance. Series’ creator and lead voice actor Seth MacFarlane (voice of “Brian Griffin,” “Peter Griffin” and “Stewie Griffin”) also was nominated in the category. He won the 2017 and 2016 Emmy Award in the category, and was nominated from 2013 to 2015.

FAMILY GUY is a 20th Century Fox Television production. Seth MacFarlane is creator and executive producer. Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin serve as executive producers and showrunners, while Steve Callaghan, Danny Smith and Kara Vallow are executive producers.

Bob’s Burgers episode “If You Love It So Much, Why Don’t You Marionette?” featured a scene that saw Gene eating oysters and being perfectly fine afterward. If you recall, Gene was super allergic to lobster during the “Lobsterfest” episode in which it saw the little guy blow up like a balloon. A fan picked up this discrepancy and producers Loren Bouchard and voice of “Gene” Eugene Mirman noted that it is possible to be allergic to one thing and not the other which means IT’S STILL CANON! Here’s hoping the next fifty Con appearances don’t turn into this question, because we’ve got the answers, baby!

BOB’S BURGERS, a 2018 Emmy Award nominee for Outstanding Animated Program, returns for a hearty ninth season on FOX. The series follows BOB (H. Jon Benjamin) and his ever-quirky family who together run the restaurant Bob’s Burgers.

In addition to its 2018 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Animated Program, the series has been nominated in the same category in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, having won the award twice, its first Emmy Award in 2014 and in 2017. It was also Emmy-nominated in the category of Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance (John Roberts) in 2015. Also in 2017, BOB’S BURGERS was nominated for a 2017 Critics’ Choice Award for Best Animation Series, and won two Annie Awards, one for Best General Audience Animated Television/Broadcast Production and the other for Outstanding Achievement for Writing in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production.

BOB’S BURGERS is a 20th Century Fox Television and Bento Box Entertainment production. The series was created by Loren Bouchard. Bouchard and Jim Dauterive serve as executive producers and writers.

Aaand of course, The Simpsons. Some virility was had when during a key scene Lisa had wanted to note the legendary women characters in animation when she then had pointed to a picture featuring “Daria”, “Louise”, and other notable figures in animated television. Some fans wondered why Leela from Futurama wasn’t in there, some always looking to turn a harmless episode of The Simpsons into another social cause, however Leela is from a show featured in the year 3000 which means she would not have shown up in the “Cartoon Women’s History. The name of the episode was “Bart vs. Itchy and Scratchy”.

In related news from The Simpsons, fans of the Steamed Hams meme, which ran rough shod over socials last year, rejoice! There are still some out there doing the good Lord’s work in producing more steamed hams bits! This one’s mashed with “Basket Case” by Green Day.

“Steamed Hams” comes from a scene in the Simpsons episode “22 Short Films About Springfield, which first aired over twenty years ago.  In the anthology episode that features 22 short scenes about Springfield’s citizens, Principal Skinner has Superintendent Chalmers over for lunch ala “dinner with the boss”. The luncheon does not go according to plan, as Skinner burns the ham he was preparing, leading him to kind of bullshit the occasion. After Skinner burns the ham, he tells Chalmers that he’s making “steamed clams” for lunch as smoke fills the house. Skinner attempts to convince Chalmers that what he had prepared “steamed hams” for lunch,  his Albany-slang nickname for hamburgers.

The producers of the episode actually posted the script that you can see here.,
