The Legend Of Korra 3-part graphic novel continuation coming in June 2017
On November of 2014, The Legend of Korra series ended its run by having its two female leads, the powerful Avatar Korra and the ingenious industrialist Asami, holding hands and walking together through a portal into the Spirit World with an implied and later confirmed romance by the creators themselves. After a few years, the rabid fans & tumblr-tards are finally getting their wish to see what happens next, thanks to Dark Horse’s new 3-part comic continuation, The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars.
This three-part graphic novel series will be written by Nickelodeon TV series co-creator and executive producer Michael Dante DiMartino, drawn by Irene Koh with covers by Heather Campbell (Free Comic Book Day 2016: The Legend of Korra), and consultation by TV series co-creator and executive producer Bryan Konietzko.
Here’s the official word from Dark Horse:
“Turf Wars begins with Korra and Asami leaving the spirit world and returning to Republic City only to find political hijinks and human vs. spirit conflict, as a pompous developer plans to turn the new spirit portal into an amusement park, potentially severing an already tumultuous connection with the spirits. In addition, the triads have realigned and are in a brutal brawl at the city’s borders where hundreds of evacuees have relocated. In order to get through it all, Korra and Asami vow to look out for each other—but first, they’ve got to get better at being a team.”
On a personal note, I didn’t follow the series until later on when they got Henry Rollins to voice Zaheer in Season 3 because he’s one of my favorite celebrities. As for the “Korrasami” relationship, while part of me commends the writers for delving into touchy subjects like PTSD and the progressive step of creating an implied LGBT relationship in a kids cartoon, the other part of me felt like it was forced because the rabid fanbase at tumblr along with them bullying & prodding the creators into making it happen.
Dark Horse will publish “Turf Wars” later this year on June 17th.
