“Tarantula” Canceled After One Season On TBS

The word is in.

TBS has officially canceled Tarantula after only one season.

Prime-time animated series Tarantula revolves around the residents of the Tierra Chula Resident Hotel (aka “The Tarantula”). It centers on Echo Johnson, a respected but uncertified tattoo artist who delivers absurd yet introspective monologues. Echo’s poetic ramblings spin tales of misadventures with the other residents, as they partake in party crashing, dumpster diving and other socially dubious acts of mischief.

Tarantula, is from producers Danny McBride, Jody Hill, Brandon James, and David Gordon Green with studios Rough House Productions and Studio T.

Our Take

Despite critical acclaimTarantula, and really none of the original adult animation on TBS up until this point, have received a whole lot of support from the network. In the case of the Carson Mell series, almost no presence at either large Comic Cons last year, a confusing release schedule, and a premiere frame during the Christmas season, almost certainly showed that Turner Networks had no interest in the long-term prospects of Tarantula. This is already the second animated series that TBS has canceled within the last few months as The Cops was just canceled, and quite frankly, Final Space has been getting a similar form of treatment from the network. It will be interesting to see what the network does for the rest of a year in which they were hoping to launch a few animated mainstays.
