Sword Art Online: Alicization Glitches Out on Toonami

More like Sword Art OFFLINE, am I right? Lololololol

Last night marked the 22nd birthday of the greater cartoon show known as Toonami. Though while things started out smoothly like every other Saturday, one show caused a halt in the festivities. The sixth episode of Sword Art Online: Alicization, for one reason or another, froze up only a few minutes into its broadcast, forcing a sudden commercial break, then a restart leading to the same frozen screen, followed by an abrupt switch to the first half of Megalo Box Episode 12, which then restarted on its normal time.

No word yet on when or if the episode will re-air or what exactly caused this glitch, though Jason DeMarco, Toonami co-creator and Adult Swim VP and Creative Director, has addressed it and is looking into the cause. Though amusingly, the frozen screen had the characters staring directly at a computer screen, which will likely be ripe for parody, as seen in the above image by Twitter user jshaggy 1983. Stay tuned for our eventual review of the sixth episode once it re-airs, as well as future Toonami related news.

Update 3/19/19:

Adult Swim VP Jason DeMarco has made an announcement regarding this:

We’ll be replaying (and hopefully finishing) eps 6 this coming Saturday at 12:30a. We’ll then be running eps 7 and 8 back-to-back on Saturday, March 30th from 12:30a-1:30a. Sorry again!

Jason also has told fans not to get mad at AniPlex USA as this was an internal Adult Swim error.
