“Strange Times” Animated Series In Works At TBS

Not to be confused with the Joe Rogan stand up special.

It’s been a while since we’ve last heard from Tom Delonge! Years ago he had produced an animated short film that was pretty damn good and now it looks like he’s back at it with TBS for a new project called Strange Times. The series sees the former Blink-182 guitarist teaming up with Aaron Karo to bring us a new series that is about five dirty teenage skateboarders who solve paranormal mysteries while being chased by Deep State government agents. In the spirit of speaking truth to power and offending everyone equally, the potential series is a love letter to punk rock culture and a middle finger to everybody else.

This will be an adult animated series that almost sounds like a play on Gravity Falls but for those who grew up listening to rock music.

Our Take

It sounds killer, but TBS has had a rough year on the animation front while attempting to partner American Dad with another heavy-hitter. Final Space worked, but with no thanks to anyone working at TBS and mostly due to Olan Rogers’ online fandom which helped the series get picked up for a second season. But, with The Cops getting an unexpected ax and Close Enough constantly being delayed, and most embarrassingly canceling the excellent Tarantula after a botched roll-out, here’s hoping that the network from Atlanta knows enough about punk culture that they can get this one right.
