Stoopid Buddy Stoodios And CBS Studios Make Key Talent Moves In An Increasingly Volatile Adult Animation Industry

Stoopid Buddy Stoodios has brought in former Netflix exec, Jasmine Johnson, to be the new head of studio. According to Deadline who broke the news, Jasmine will oversee production of the studio’s slate and manage the day-to- day business, reporting directly to Seth Green, John Harvatine IV, Matthew Senreich and Eric Towner. This is a newly created role, with Johnson taking on responsibilities previously handled by the co-founders as the animation-focused studio is growing its operations with an expansive slate of animated projects.

The news comes as Stoopid Buddy Stoodios stays incredibly busy. Hulu just renewed their series Crossing Swords for a second season and at one point had multiple projects in production for the now defunct service known as Quibi. Fortunately, additional series for FOX, AMC, Syfy and the almighty Robot Chicken for Adult Swim are all in production and slated to hit in 2021.

CBS Studios continues to get serious in the world of adult animation having locked in Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks/Solar Oppositesto a new overall deal for the next two years. The agreement makes it so Mike will exclusively make animated TV content for CBS Studios, whether that’s on CBS All Access, Showtime, and the like, for the next two years. Given that all of Mike’s content is fantastic, this is both a key hire and another key loss for Adult Swim who this year alone watched the likes of Dan Harmon and Seth MacFarlane also walk for overall deals elsewhere.

CBS has taken adult animation very seriously this year which includes Tooning Out The News which wraps it’s first season on Friday, the recently wrapped for a third season Our Cartoon Presidentand the highly-anticipated Harper House from Brad Neely (another former Adult Swim alumnus).
