“Steven Universe” Panel Recap at NYCC 2019

Ever hear the phrase, “come out singing and dancing?” Rebecca Sugar takes that literally. She, Deedee Magno Hall (voice of Pearl), Michaela Dietz (voice of Amethyst), and singing sensation Estelle (voice of Garnet) came out on stage one at a time, each singing a part of the song “Happily Ever After” from Steven Universe: The Movie (with Rebecca playing the part of Steven, since Zach Callister is said to be “traveling the world” at the moment!)

This musical performance was accompanied by Ska Tune Network — Estelle also got the audience to join in for “Isn’t it Love?” and “True Kinda Love.”

The surprise guest, though, was none other than Broadway star Sarah Stiles: the voice of Spinel!

“Oh my goodness, look at that crowd! And you’re all…here…FOR ME!” She announced in-character. Needless to say, fans went wild. She took to the stage singing “Other Friends,” just as bouncily as the character herself, emotionally charging everyone in the crowd with “Drift Away” soon after.

Once the Q&A started, Stiles detailed her love for the show, her emotional reaction to the script, songs, and fan response. During the panel, Rebecca Sugar announced the Steven Universe: The Movie will be getting a home release, featuring never-before-seen scenes and a behind-the-scenes documentary. This drops November 12th, the movie soundtrack vinyl drops on November 15th, and the Steven Universe book, The Tale of Steven — based on the intro of the movie — comes out on October 8th.

Oh, and did we mention the epilogue miniseries that takes place in the future?

(Rest easy, fans — Spinel will be there too!)
