Sony Pictures TV Confirms Return of “The Boondocks” With Aaron McGruder Involved

Yep…we did it again.

Sony Pictures Animation has announced that Aaron McGruder will in fact be part of the upcoming The Boondocks revival that we first reported on a couple of weeks ago. Sony teases a “complete re-imagining” of the animated satire for the “modern era”. In recent interviews, producers Carl Jones and Brian Ash (out promoting their new series Sugar and Toys) had remained coy about the John Witherspoon slip, however, Sony’s confirmation pretty much put a button on that.

The return of the series chronicles the adventures of the Freeman family against the evil local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus, who rules the fictional Woodcrest County, Maryland with an iron fist.

Based on the original comic strip Boondocks, Two young brothers (Huey and Riley) move away from their birth city to live with their irascible grandfather out in the suburbs. With one brother being socially and politically motivated and the younger brother a stereotypical black youth who likes rap music and culture etc Biting socio-political commentary ensues when they meet a whole cast of crazy exaggerated characters set in a mainly white middle-upper class neighborhood.
