Six Adult Animated Series That Pay Homage To Classic Cartoons

Gravity Falls Play Around with Street Fighter

Japanese influence isn’t limited to just anime. For example, the Gravity Falls episode “Fight Fighters” honors the Street Fighter video game series. Focusing on the old-fashioned stand up arcade version, Dipper brings a character named Rumble McSkirmish to life to help him fight a bully. Rumble resembles the popular character Guile (with a little bit of Ken and/or Ryu thrown in), they’re both from the “USA,” and they have equally vague, yet tragic backstories. While Guile seeks to avenge the death of his Air Force buddy at the hands of M. Bison, Rumble must avenge his father who was possibly killed by every character in the game. The designers’ and animators’ attention to the original character designs, graphics, and even the choppy pixels add an air of authenticity to this already faithful parody.
