Shorts Review: Sonic For Hire – Season 6, Episode 11

 Sonic

 Spoilers Below

Ever think about what time period you would travel to if you had a time machine and could go anywhere? Though choice, but I think I’d travel back to this morning, before I left the house – I think I left the stove on.

If the recent Sonic for Hire episodes are any indication, and we ever have the opportunity to time travel, we might want to think about passing on it.

In Episode 11, Tails, Eggman, and Earthworm Jim approached Lucca to ask for new time machine to save Sonic, since the Epoch was accidentally destroyed during an incident involving a flaming bag of doo-doo. Surprisingly, Lucca consented, giving them free range to choose from a wide variety of machines, including a Delorean and two phone booths. I’m not sure if one was supposed to be from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but I sure hope so.

Stupidly, the threesome decided to take separate vehicles and – most likely from traveling to different points in time – the present ended up being drastically altered. There was a tall Tails, an infant Eggman and Earthworm Jim (in the best joke of the day) inexplicably turned into Yoshi.

Despite these unfortunate alterations to the space-time continuum, Sonic re-appeared – alive – and managed tomake their mission a success. But then everything around them continued to change. The characters stayed the same, but the background flashed through several different classic video games.

When things appeared to calm down, Sonic got ready to call it a day. Not so fast, Earthworm Jim interjected: he doesn’t want to stay a small, green dinosaur. Sonic initially refused, but when he transformed into Wario (look at Yoshi’s eyes at this moment, ha!) he relented.

As you might imagine (if you read my stuff regularly) I was disappointed by the lack of a Mario appearance. Hopefully Sonic being alive doesn’t mean Mario is out of the picture now.

The episode was funny enough, the time shifts were entertaining, and it will be interesting to see where the show goes now that time travel could be out of the picture. If the past is any indication though, there may only be a couple episodes left in this season. Hopefully Mario will make a return before they wrap it up. Otherwise, I’ll be looking for a time machine to travel back to earlier episodes.
