Shorts Review: @Crunchlins – “Creeperville: Episode 1”

As I’ve stated in #WebsDay, and countless times on message boards, I just don’t understand what the big friggin deal is about Minecraft. If you want to build civilizations, play The Sims. Much better graphics, expansions out the wazoo and the respect from your family are all pretty good reasons to switch. But then again, if you’re playing any video games that require that amount of time and dedication, chances are you really don’t care too much about what your family thinks of you. Side Note: I also can’t stand The Sims. But I cant get on them about it because no one really draws shows about them or writes fan fiction about them anymore. So let’s dive into the show before I dig myself deeper into the pile of hate mail I’m going to receive from Minecraft fans.

Having seen the crew at Crunchlins animate before I can honestly say that this video is actually a bit better. It may not really seem that much different but pay close attention towards the middle of the video when the guy encounters the guy cloaked in all black. I’m sure that the guy in all black has some specific character name in the game, but I’m not looking it up. I’m all but certain that if I did I would end up pushing out a small but of information that I could actually use, like math or my home address. The human mind works in incredibly mysterious ways. But anyway, watch the character facial expressions change during each quick cut, it’s pretty friggin stellar. There is one more little artistic aspect I’d like to bring up. When the character is running from all the zombies his leg movements closely resemble a swastika. Might wanna keep an eye on stuff like that guys. Someone’s bound to get offended. But then again, isn’t it our mission to offend people on the internet anyway?

The sounds and voice acting in the show are really nice. I especially like the old school, female style scream take when the creeper comes into the guys house. For unknown reasons, that scream coupled with the facial expression used flashed me all the way back to watching Spongebob. That’s pretty deep in the psyche so major props on that.

Overall I thought the episode was fairly well done. Art was a much grander scale than I was expecting, which is always a plus. Toss in a few laughs, minus a few swastikas and you’ve got yourself one hell of an internet cartoon.
