Season Review: Legend of Chamberlain Heights Season Two

Should the Comedy Central series get a pickup for a third? Find out here.

When I first started watching Legends of Chamberlain Heights, I didn’t know what to expect. The animation is low budget and every character magnifies a stereotype about every race of people that make up the population of Chamberlain Heights. It took me a few episodes to enjoy the show for what it is – a television show.

Legends of Chamberlain Heights follows the adventures, or perhaps, misadventures of Grover, Jamal, and Milk – better known as “The Shit Crew”. The high schoolers are determined to become legends at their high school while being concerned with playing basketball and getting some play from the females. Except, they get no playing time – on the court or from the girls. Let’s face it, these guys aren’t “Legends” by any means.

Throughout the season, The Shit Crew went on a lot of crazy adventures. They battled against a robotic Derek Fisher who’s only concern was getting some cheeks from all of the attractive women who were already in a relationship within the Heights. They participated in a Civil War re-enactment. They even dealt with the return of Grover’s father. They even survived being mistaken for criminals in a case of mistaken identity. I have to say, the show is crude, but what else do you expect late at night on Comedy Central?

The first few episodes I was kind of distant and had some reserves about the show. I was actually kind of mad at the way that some of the characters were portrayed and aligned heavily with Malik, the youngest brother of Grover, yet also the most conscious of the three brothers and arguably, if not, definitely the most conscious character on the show. That being said, the character I found to be the most entertaining happened to be Montrell, the weed smoking older brother of Grover. I have got to say, there were times that I did not enjoy watching the show but by the time I viewed the last episode of the season I actually found myself enjoying the comical mischief of Legends. And then it dawned on me. The Legends of Chamberlain Heights are the stories that are told each episode, not the Shit Crew themselves.

This show isn’t perfect. It’s dirty, the celebrity impersonations are hilariously horrible and the characters are questionable, but Legends of Chamberlain Heights is still enjoyable. Not every episode knocks it out of the park, but occasionally, these guys really do deliver. If there is one thing that this show does have, it IS potential. Really. The episode where the Shit Crew was involved in a Civil War re-enactment had me laughing non-stop from beginning to end. It was the perfect shit storm of crazy to stand out as my personal favorite episode this season. I’m sure if the team behind Legends can create more episodes with that caliber of comedy that Legends will continue to stick around. On top of that, no two episodes are the same and have something unique about them. If you asked me at the beginning of the season if this was a show that I would continue to watch, I’d look at you and say “Hell no”. Ask me again today and I will tell you honestly that I am looking forward to next season’s shenanigans.
