Season English Dub Review: Interviews with Monster Girls Season One

No matter who gets the interview, this thing shouldn’t get any position on your stream list.

I sometimes read other publications that have followed Interviews with Monster Girls, and a lot of people seem to like it. Unfortunately, I’m not one of them, and I’ll tell you why.

If someone were to come up to me on the street and ask me to describe Interviews with Monster Girls, this is how I’d describe it. Take X-Men, remove any sign of action or really anything exciting to happen, and you’ve got Interviews with Monster Girls. Why?

Welp, give me a franchise that’s all about how a Professor attempting to assist humans with extraordinary abilities to deal with their everyday lives, and you could absolutely be giving me X-Men or Interviews with Monster Girls. That said, Professor X’s teachings and therapeutic sessions with the gallery of characters from the Marvel franchise whether it’d be with Logan, Jean Grey, or really anyone, are FAR more compelling and reflective of social statures than anything Interviews with Monster Girls is trying to portray.

It may have something to do with that I don’t give a shit about any of the characters in Interviews with Monster Girls. No one is coming to Tetsuo’s table with really ANY intense issues, just really needing a bit of guidance. Kyoko might be the one exception, but her character’s so aggravating, I was rooting for someone from the Japanese soccer team to run out of the bushes and punt her head into the stratosphere.

Interviews with Monster Girls features nothing to keep any interest in finishing this series. There’s no end goal here, we really don’t get a lot in terms of conflict, more or less this series is a show about nothing that does nothing but take from a seminal American franchise that has stood the test of time and does this concept so much better. Any sign of a growing relationship between Tetsuo and Sakie is really a facade, and this whole franchise should be ended samurai style.
