“Scott Pilgrim Vs The World” Animated Series Teased In New Interview

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the “Scott Pilgrim Vs The World” live-action movie which was basically a condensed adaptation of Brian Lee O’Malley’s six-volume graphic novel series which ended it’s run during the same year, but months apart from the film in 2010. Director, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Baby Driver) has mentioned that he’s currently in talks of a possible “anime” version which was mentioned during an Entertainment Weekly interview with the cast & crew of the film and had this to say about it:

“There’s some plans — and there’s nothing official yet — but there are some plans to revisit the material in an animation way. We’ve been talking with Bryan and with Jared for a while [about]: What if we did something with the books in anime form? It’s being discussed as we speak”

Our Take

While I didn’t like the live-action film as much as I wanted to, due to a few problems it had (namely, the character Wallace Wells). The film itself went on to gain a cult following throughout the years. So the idea of a Scott Pilgrim anime adaptation that respectfully stays true to O’Malley’s six-volume run instead of forcibly cramming all six volumes and rushing it into a 112-minute movie Wouldn’t be out of the question since the film came out before the 6th final volume was released and the screenwriters only had a series of notes from O’Malley to go on for how to end it when they rushed production, compared the final book which tied up loose-ends and had a greater sense of finality.

The film even had a short-lived digitally released retro-Inspired videogame that was developed & published by Ubisoft which is also been teased for a possible comeback. I actually enjoyed the game when it came out, as it took inspiration from beat’em up classics such as “River City Ransom” and “Double Dragon”, so if both this game’s possible return and an anime really do happen, I’d be more than happy to dip my toes in both once more.
