“Samurai Jack” Creator Bringing Two New Projects To Big Screen
More of this.
Genndy Tartakovsky is bringing two new projects to theaters in a new pact with Sony Pictures Animation. One of them is an R-rated animated comedy called Fixed and another, called Black Knight, is said to be similar in vein to Samurai Jack just a bit more of the renaissance era.
Our Take
The same studio that brought us Sausage Party is continuing to see the value in producing adult animation, as they should. It’s a largely untapped market and with this signing along with the recent acquisition of Funimation, Sony Pictures Animation is getting just as serious as Netflix for plays that the other companies are simply passing up right now. For Genndy, he makes this deal a year after he produces the best-animated series of 2017. His built-in audience alone should attract movie-goers capable of putting together a few hits for Sony.
