Review World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman “We Are the Swords of Salvation”

WB ep 6

Spoilers Ahead!

Redemption seems to be the name of the game this weekend. After a seriously subpar “We Are the Summer,” World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman shows what a two part episode should be, even though “We Are the Swords of Salvation” could have been a single one hour episode. The metaphysical this week was extraordinarily huge, officially called a Fortress Class.

What is decent to see is how the rest of the Striker Team can actually do something. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, that something amounts to nothing, because everyone hit this Fortress Class Metaphysical with everything they got and all they got was an arm off and a bunch of flying insects downed. Not even the captain couldn’t do much. But, yet again, Moroha did everything himself, earning himself S-Rank in the process. I guess that’s cool and all, but the rest of the Strikers seem rather useless, and like props as of now.

This group is supposed to be the elite of the school. The only other two that seems to do much saving is Satsuki and Shizuno, but they still pale. If “We Are the Swords of Salvation” isn’t a microcosm to every single Shonen Jump anime, I don’t know what is. Moroha pulls powers out of his ass for any occasion, and still manages to win. While it’s enjoyable, and the formula is sound here, it does get grating after a while. Hopefully, more characters come up with something more than genital grabbing and teasing the audience with almost showing tits.

“We Are the Swords of Salvation” is nothing but an entertaining show. Right now, I can equate World Break to what I call a popcorn movie. These are movies that you watch, fully knowing that there is very little story, but the action makes up for it. This is like Into the Storm, The Matrix Reloaded, and the newest Transformers movie. Right now, World Break fits this mold like the mold is custom made for it. It’s not a bad thing, but I am slowly resolving myself to the fact that World Break will be nothing more than a popcorn show.
