Review: Wild Life “Zook Club”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Glenn has a book club and everyone is invited, but after Debbie writes a book of her own, she takes over the club and then turns it into something that it wasn’t intended to be. At first bummed, Glenn actually grows to love Debbie’s book until a bad dream convinces him to maybe give up books and switch to starting a tea club…much to Debbie’s chagrin.

Our Take

Starting up book clubs is a common trope, we see it all the time, and I’m not sure this week’s Wild Life takes the premise in too many different directions. John Reynolds is a voice actor that is growing on me and he plays as a perfect contrast to the sillier Reggie Watts or Skittlez Ortiz, bringing an almost The Life and Times of Tim take to the rambunctious setting that is an abandoned zoo set after the end of the world. In fact, most of this season’s episodes seem to play off of Glenn the most, clearly the protagonist in most situations. A somewhat old-school type of short-form series that hearkens back to a time where adult animation wasn’t trying to be altruistic just yet which, I think, makes it a perfect fit for Syfy’s growing stable of originals.
