Review: Welcome to the Wayne “Wall-to-Wall Ping-Pong Ball

Overview

Andrei finds a book about vampires that we eventually find out is a key. Turns out, Clara wants the vampire out of the picture and as such sends a ninja after the crew to get him back. However, when the ninja’s life is on the line, Andrei saves her which inspires the ninja to return the favor much to the chagrin of Clara who bans the timbers from ever returning to the Stanza again.

Our Take

Not only is the plot getting juicier for this series as time goes on, but this show also has some comedy zingers that are just as good as anywhere. When Olly exclaims, “Just because something is green and floats doesn’t mean you should flush it”, I thought, “I’m on board”. It’s part Gravity Falls but with jokes that wouldn’t look far off from The Simpsons and I’m enjoying the ride. Andrei’s overriding arc is a bunch of fun and a real departure from typical fare about vampires.

Let’s also give some kudos to the production department. While not as fancy as the aforementioned franchises, the aesthetic of the show does fine in pulling its weight despite the fact that the characters look right out of Sanjay and Craig (not a bad thing). Light special effects are used, if at all, and the show features a somewhat throwback look, not taking itself too seriously in backgrounds and what not, but, still serviceable.
