Review: We Bare Bears “Rescue Ranger”

Not the Disney Afternoon Kind.

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

Tabes helps the Bears go on a rescue mission to find the lovable Bigfoot Charlie (Jason Lee) after a Burly & unrepentant game hunter with a Booby-trap fetish, forcibly captures him.

Our Take

Serving as a continuation to Creature Mysteries, Tabes eventually finds out the truth about the Bears friendship with Charlie as they attempt to rescue him from some hyper-masculine Aussie Dude who has a strange obsession with Booby-trapping people & things. Strangely enough, he even keeps calling Charlie a “Yowey” (which hilariously sounds like “Yaoi” which isn’t exactly tame or friendly for a kids cartoon), but I think it could’ve been an attempt to slip that phrase in by making it random Aussie slang.

The action and pacing are where this episode shines the most, as we see how well skilled and trained of a threat this Trapper-guy is, but often came across as both funny and quite a challenge for Tabes to be against when confronting her. While it’s not the first time Tabes had sort-of encountered Charlie in the past, It is the first time the two had a genuine interaction where they sort-of spoke to each other.

What I also thought was interesting is that despite how opposite they both seem, Tabes and Charlie both have a close relationship & connection with nature, yet Charlie’s connection with the animals is approached on a whole different level compared to Tabes since Charlie can easily befriend and talk to forest wildlife with absolute ease. But it also helps that Jason Lee consistently makes his performance as Charlie so damn likable.

Overall, “Rescue Ranger” left me pleasantly surprised with how well-executed everything was. The action, humor and some sentimental moments helped show us that while Tabes is determined to find out Bigfoot’s existence, she isn’t a monster who would go as far as to trap one for financial gain.
