Review: Total Dramarama “Dude Where’s Macaw”

Overview

While trying to defend his elite gamer status after being beaten by Beth in a bizarre fighting game, Chef Hatchet uses an old cheat code that accidentally brings a dangerous fighting game character to life.

Our Take

Once again we dive deep into the weirdness that is this show. It’s hard to put into words what it’s trying to say about the juxtaposing current and past generation of gamers, but what it lacks in some sort of conveyed message makes up for in laughs. The episode was well-paced with its jokes, and much of the humor is mostly about Chef priding himself over a trophy he got regarding an old-school videogame called “Macaw Wash” while Beth’s game represents the current generation with a fighting game called “Painapples”.

Of course, the story doesn’t really pick up until the weird-ass cheat code stuff begins, but I’m sure we’ve seen episodes like this before in older cartoons, or most notably a Gravity Falls episode where a fictional game character comes to life causing havoc.

Overall, another passable episode, but nothing too weird outside of its central premise.
