Review: Tigtone “Tigtone and Lord Festus: Credible Threat”

Overview:

Tigtone and Lord Festus have the ultimate fight to prove to one another who is the bigger “credible threat.” Blood is shed, bones are broken, and egos are shamelessly shattered.

Our Take:

Tigtone is a show that has a lot to say about not just the fantasy genre, but also the hero archetypes that fuel it and other types of stories. Tigtone is basically pure testosterone and he’s a character who defines himself in how aggressive he can be and how much he can kill. Tigtone is also able to effectively highlight how ridiculous and unstable that kind of heroic figure can be. “Tigtone and Lord Festus: Credible Threat” is a strong episode that operates as a very smart takedown of false machismo and the needless pageantry that accompany duels and competitions, which are also things that fuel every frame of Tigtone. “Tigtone and Lord Festus: Credible Threat” is essentially one long duel over who’s the bigger “credible threat” as the characters get lost in the minutiae and peacocking of battle.

“Tigtone and Festus: Credible Threat” is a bigger swing for the series and even though it’s largely successful and succeeds in how it focuses on a single fight for an entire episode, it’s not an entry that’s going to work for everyone. The evolving nature of Tigtone and Festus’ pointless feud may not be enough for some people and it’s understandably very light in terms of story. That being said, this is an episode that literally never stops moving and it bombards the audience with extreme visuals that make them want to flinch as if they were engaged in a fistfight with Tigtone. As Tigtone’s second season begins to come to a close, it’s encouraging to see the series still play around with structure and genre to this degree when it could easily just continue to do the same thing.
