Review: The Summoner “Friendship Bracelet” ; “Parents”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week we get to meet Rory’s parents who seem to be nice people. That said, Rory seems to get just as much anxiety over impressing his parents as he does Shannon so when Summoner gets him a charge card with millions of dollars in the balance, Rory goes crazy at a fancy restaurant. Unfortunately, when the real owner of the card shows up, Rory’s parents have to pitch in to help pay it all back or Rory could face potential prosecution.

In “Friendship Bracelet”, Shannon gives Rory a bracelet she made after venting to him about an ex. To try and score some brownie points, Rory attempts to answer a gift with another gift and while it looks like he’s going to strike out, Summoner summons Shannon’s druggie ex-boyfriend who happily removes some of his possessions from Shannon’s house allowing Shannon to breathe a sigh of relief.

Our Take

I appreciated the break away from Shannon in the “Parents” episode and I hope this could be a catalyst for us to meet other people in Rory’s life. While I love a good romantic comedy just as much as the next guy, not having back-to-back shorts of it allowed me to appreciate “Friendship Bracelet” more, so hopefully more of this happens. In any event, one of the humorous things I’m really starting to get into is Solis Animation’s production work which also includes a litany of sight gags that are going on at any given point. Even in a series that has only five minutes, this allows the breadth of the comedy to expand and give us that much more bang for our buck.
