Review: The Stanley Dynamic “The Stanley Catchphrase”

000

Have you ever lost credit for something you take pride in?  It can be a drag, and nobody knows it better than Darnell after last night’s Stanley Dynamic! The Stanley Dynamic continues to truck along in it’s first season with this all new episode, but was it a good watch? Let’s explore that question in this all new review!

In “The Stanley Catchphrase” Dad’s comic strip inadvertently causes tension between Larry and Darnell, and allows Luke to go to war with the cafeteria lunch lady.

Put this episode in a can and call it ham! Well, it’s not quite as catchy of a catchphrase as it was put in last night’s Stanley Dynamic, but maybe it will catch on in the internet-sphere? Probably not. Last night’s Stanley Dynamic was packed with fun moments, great character interaction and even a fair amount of light-hearted drama. The chaotic atmosphere of last week’s episode that I didn’t care for was remedied this week. Everything flowed well, everything made sense.

The synopsis is missing the third little story that involved mom competing for business with a new organic food truck. Her interaction with the health nut who runs the truck is very funny. They have a lot of funny dialogue between them, and it turned out to be my favorite part of the episode!

Luke’s feud with the lunch lady fell a little under the radar for me. The banter was less interesting to watch, and ultimately I didn’t feel like it added much to the episode. What I did like about it was Luke’s attitude in the situation. He seems alone in the fight against the menacing lunch lady, but is very vindictive in his efforts to bring her to justice.

Larry and Darnell’s story was the main focus of the episode. It was interesting to see the story progress like a roller coaster. They seem to be at a high for a moment, eventually come spiraling down, and it continues in that fashion. I thought the story played out perfectly. It progressed at a good pace, but took the time to make us laugh. Isiah Zea Lea who plays Darnell was excellent this episode. He brought a lot of charisma to the screen, and it looked like he was having a lot of fun which translates to the audience and helps us have fun too.

Dad was sort of the instigator of crisis in this week’s episode. His good intentions end up making situations worse, and he’s never really held accountable. It all just falls on Larry. There is something hilarious about that, but it also makes me feel bad for Larry.

Overall, this was a great episode. Probably my favorite so far. It was funny, a lot of great interaction. I don’t think Luke was used to his best ability in this episode, so he ended up feeling a two-dimensional. Because he’s animated! Sorry. But I had fun with this episode, I think the strengths of the shined through, and the weaknesses took a back seat.
