Review: The Movie Show Does Marvel

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week’s episode of The Movie Show sees Deb and Wade each talk about their favorite Marvel franchises. For Deb, it’s Thor: Love and Thunder and while at the time of taping she may have been excited for a 2021 premiere, she’s probably super bummed for the move to May of 2022 for the fourth Thor standalone film. We then talk a little bit about Guardians of the Galaxy and Wade wanting to make some soundtrack recommendations to the sequel (which had NO chance of coming out this year, I don’t know where this show is getting it’s info). Last but not least, Wade gives us a rundown of what the original Howard the Duck is doing nowadays, and we also get set visits from a hammer and a probably rabid raccoon.

Our Take

While the individual bits are becoming more and more formulaic over time, I found myself giggling through both the raccoon and Howard the Duck bits. A lot of this show is very old-school in it’s approach and really made for viewers who aren’t easily offended (so, pretty much everyone living in Los Angeles County). It’s actually becoming the strength of the series rather than any actual news or information you would learn about any of the movies (note the aforementioned news that is already out of date that is prominently touted during the course of the series). A bunch of the jokes coming from the puppets really do whiff, but the special guests helped.
