Review: The Movie Show Does 1995

Overview:

Deb and Wade celebrate the anniversaries of time travel classics 12 Monkeys and Terminator 2: Judgement Day in this time-bending episode. Then, they used Wade’s time machine to travel back in time and encountered the past versions of themselves. As present-day Wade works to fix the time machine, the 1995 versions of Deb and Wade talk about two classics, Seven and Apollo 13. Plus, they interview the unluckiest number on the planet.

Our Take:

After the unfortunate misfire with the ghosts episode from last week, it’s nice for me to see that this week’s episode did something interesting in its story. I’m happy that this episode gave the characters something more to do other than discuss movies and deliver raunchy jokes. In addition to seeing the hosts discussing movies that involve time travel, we also get to see them travel through time. I thought this added to the show’s hilarity. Even though it didn’t provide as much zaniness as I was hoping for, it still managed to get me chuckling all the way through. Plus, Wade spent the entire episode butt naked, paying homage to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s nude appearance in the Terminator films. How can you not get a snicker out of seeing a naked puppet on television? Let alone a show about movie discussions.

I thought the humor in this episode was an improvement over the comedy from the last one. I got more chuckles out of this episode. Not only was the naked Wade bit amusing, but the jokes that involve people’s beliefs in 1995 and the Number 13 interview were also laughable in the right way. Yes, they’re a bit cheesy at times, but it’s the type of cheese that’s good enough for me to eat. You know, like cheddar cheese or mozzarella. The one bit that made me laugh the most was when the hosts show a “deleted scene” from Seven. I can at least say that Seven would’ve been a different movie if they put that scene in the final cut. The 1995 episode was a better episode than the ghosts episode last week regarding its story and the humor. I’m looking forward to seeing what next week’s episode has to offer.
