Review: The Freak Brothers “The Expendables”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Gretchen tells the Freak Brothers they need to get jobs, so Jeff Bezos’ company Blue Origin hires the trio on for a one-way trip to Mars as astronauts. But when the trio makes an escape before they get to outer space, Jeff Bezos will stop at nothing, save for a Prime membership cancellation, to kill them all.

Our Take

This series just gets better and better and now you get to see inspiration from the Lehrer brothers infamous Instagram cartoons that are constantly being censored on Instagram. This week, their focus is on Jeff Bezos and the billionaires’ obsession with deep space. The satire against Amazon is by far the best-written in the business, and features a multitude of gags like Bezos being a customer service rep for Alexa, a T-1000 Terminator, and equipped with an army of TV franchises that would be willing to kill on his behalf. It’s really quite crazy!

I can’t believe I’m still in a position to stay this, but the show continues to chug along, especially this week featuring the continued hilarious contributions of Woody Harrelson, John Goodman, and Pete Davidson, the latter of which I’m continued to be blown away about how he’s certainly holding his own with award-winning actors in Goodman/Harrelson. Tiffany Haddish’s “KItty” character is really starting to come into her own as well, and does great working against the Bezos character.

I do think the montage to kick off the third act was a bit haste, I’m not a fan of the guys passing by all of these possibilities for great episodes that I hope we get to see in the future (I have my eye on you, Area 51), but really it’s a small gripe on what’s already been a fantastic first season of The Freak Brothers. I’m ready for seasons two and three!
