Our Take

For the first episode, It was quite a welcoming surprise to hear Danny Trejo making his debut on the show in doing his voice for such a kid-friendly cartoon. But then again, this isn’t the first time Trejo has done anything kid-friendly due to his past with the Spy Kids films or voicing anything Nickelodeon-related for that matter. Much of Grandpa Danny’s coolness shares a few common traits to Trejo’s real-life persona such as his Tattooed Biker physique, his experiences in Hollywood, and his desire to show-boat before his grandkids. But a lot of the episode’s plot structure almost reminded me too much of the Will Ferrel & Mark Wahlberg comedy “Daddy’s Home” with the heart of the story being about who excels the most in terms of being there for the kids in their lives.

The second episode had another guest star in the form of Lincoln Loud of “The Loud House” fame to further remind its audience that both series share the same universe. But much of the episode is spent on Sid trying to dip her toes into what it means to be good at prankster and trying to find her groove in that particular field.

Overall, both were fun episodes and neither of them was boring despite how cliche they almost came across. I think I liked the first episode more, mostly for Trejo having fun with his role, and the message it properly conveyed about what makes a better parent/grandparent. While the 2nd episode got progressively wacky with its proceedings.
