Review: The Amazing World of Gumball “The Revolt” ; “The Decisions”

Decisions, decisions.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

This week’s double episodes are all about Darwin. In “The Revolt”, Darwin tries to convince various appliances and equipment around town to essentially stop being slaves. At first, convincing these simple everyday items to be free doesn’t go over well, but eventually, they come around and actually enslave everyone in Elmore.

Darwin can’t make his own decisions, so he asks Gumball to decide for him. A week later, Darwin decides to go for a change in scenery and asks Alan instead,  but Gumball would prefer that Darwin make decisions for himself.  Darwin heads to the mall and makes rash indecision that causes mass chaos so it’s up to him to save the day.

Our Take

I know it’s mere coincidence concerning how long it takes to produce an episode of any series, however, “The Revolt” shares a lot in common with main arcs from Animals Season Three. That said, I actually think the Cartoon Network series did a better job of the premise as it was much funnier and it showcased areas of the producers’ talents that we haven’t really seen in seasons’ past. It works here, and it’s excellent.

“The Decisions” wasn’t nearly as creative, but the mob scene at the end makes up for it. We’re staring at the two-part series finale happening on Cartoon Network next week for The Amazing World of Gumball, and we’re looking forward to seeing this one get a proper send-off as only Ben Bocquelet can do.
