Review: SpongeBob SquarePants ‘Yeti Krabs’

Yeti Krabs

Spoilers Below:

Oh man, that was quite the episode. Can you believe in the end that Rick… Wait. Sorry, I just finished the season finale of The Walking Dead. It’s hard to go from that to SpongeBob SquarePants. But I shall do my best.

When Mr. Krabs couldn’t convince Squidward to stop slacking off at work and take some initiative, he told a tale of creature called the Yeti Krabs that comes to eat lazy workers and others located close to them.

After Krabs left the Krusty Krab, the Yeti turned out to be real and paid the restaurant a visit. This terrified SpongeBob, but Squidward just believed it to be Mr. Krabs in disguise and attempted to pull its mask off. Just then the real Mr. Krabs arrived, and the Yeti planned to eat the three of them, until SpongeBob realized it was just hungry and whipped up some krabby patties.

In Case You Missed It:

1) Krabs to a slacking Squidward: “I’m not paying you to dream sweet nothings.”

2) “Initiative” in Mr. Krabs talk: “Initia-r-tive”

3) Squidward was reading Boredom Weekly, which had a cover featuring a picture of a chair.

4) Is anyone else disturbed that SpongeBob cleaned Mr. Krabs’ undies in his mouth?

5) The population of Bikini Bottom is 517.

6) Bikini Bottom has a store called Gramma’s Closet.

7) A perfect greeting to a yeti: “Good day, sir. Are you yeti to order?”

8) The can SpongeBob used to feed the Yeti was labeled: Emergency Krabby Patties.

One thing SpongeBob has never been short on, is a bunch of undersea creatures of various kinds. In addition to sponges, crabs, squids, starfish, and fish, they also have a host of more dangerous creatures, including everything from giant worms to pirate ghosts to seabears. Introducing a new one is a good way to give SpongeBob and the gang a problem for the plot. Enter the Yeti.

The only question I really had after this episode: was it a really a yeti krab that fed on lazy workers like Mr. Krabs claimed? Or was it just a hungry yeti krab frustrated at the shoddy service by a couple of fast food workers? Either way it made for an amusing episode, even though the storyline was a bit overplayed.

There was some good animation instances, like SpongeBob stretching around the restaurant, and the numerous times SpongeBob and/or Squidward were literally blown away by the Yeti’s roar.

It was funny enough, but missing some of the wittiness that I particularly enjoy from SpongeBob. The best episodes of the show feature a few jokes that are meant for the parents, because either the language or the content (or both) is a bit advanced for the younger kids. This one was basically straightforward and neutral in that regard, so that was a bit of a bummer.

And finally: where the heck was Patrick?
