Review: South Park “Six Days to Air”

We get a behind the scenes look at how South Park is made week in and week out with its creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker at the helm.

Did you know Bill Hader works for South Park? I never knew, to be honest. I’ve seen him in a few films but other than that I thought it was pretty cool that he works as a consultant for the show. This is just one of the many cool aspects of this behind-the-scenes documentary. The other is when they go way back to the origins of South Park, and show the original cutouts used at the time to help mold the look of our favorite fourth graders.

Let’s take away the fact that this is a South Park special and think this….Wanna know what it’s like to create a TV show? This doc(along with the 60 Minutes special and the MTVU gig) gives a step-by-step on how the process works on creating all the jokes, all the animation, and all of the negotiating aspects of Anne Garefino(basically the Comedy Central rep) explaining over the phone to her higher ups, the idea of shit-consumption for the “HUMAN CENTiPAD” episode. That’s right, this poor soul has to explain every shitty detail so that this show can get on the air on time.! ( I have to interview this person).

What I liked most about this special is that it didn’t feel forced just because the cameras were on. Even though the show takes 6 days to make, this doc proves that Matt and Trey after 15 seasons, know all about it, and they have definitely shaped a team to work around them at any given notice right up until the 11th hour when the show has to air. (PS fucking Trey loves his junk food, Mickey D’s and cans of soda all over the place…lol)
