Review: RWBY “The More The Merrier”

All out battle.

Overview:

Qrow, Oscar, and the teams go to meet Lionheart, but are ambushed by Raven

Our Take:

The big battle commences, and everyone splits off into one on ones.

Lionheart is revealed to the cast as a traitor, and he shows exactly the reasons why he turned. He’s not comfortable with Salem’s cohorts, and he’s not happy about having to be on their side. However, like Raven, he simply wants to be left alone. He’s afraid and wants to be completely removed from the situation. The fear has gripped him so much that he’s willing to do whatever it takes– including betraying Ozpin and sabotaging his own hunters. He’s even willing to possibly give up Oscar to Salem if it means she will leave him alone. People will truly do a lot to ensure their own safety.

The kids are still very much traumatized by Pyrrha’s death, and it’s not something they will heal from anytime soon. Jaune completely loses his cool upon seeing Cinder, and charges at her, even if he knows he has no chance against a Maiden. When Jaune is in danger, Ruby remembers Pyrrha being killed by Cinder and activates her Silver Eyes once again. Like they said in previous episodes, the death of a friend weight heavily on them, and it’s not something that can be easily forgotten. It’s enough to spark sadness and this time, fury.

Then the ending– Weiss gets impaled by Cinder’s spear and falls before we know how bad the damage is. Considering she’s one of the title characters, she’ll probably be fine, but that was a really harsh cliffhanger. RWBY doesn’t shy away from severely injuring its main cast, even if they might not necessarily die. Of course, we have to wait for the next episode to find out.

More payoff than plot, but good fights all around.
