Review: Red vs Blue “Omphalos”

No way out this time.

Overview:

The group is split up into their own personal nightmares.

Our Take:

The labyrinth, as we find out, isn’t something constructed by Genkins, but something initially put in place to trap Chrovos. Since Chrovos is a highly intelligent being, it acts- or rather, reacts- to a person’s awareness and keeps them surrounded by what they fear most. In some cases, it’s memories, such as Grif’s encounter with his old drill sergeant and Carolina’s encounter with her past self, but most of the time it seems to be alternative scenarios. Sarge is trapped in an office job where he doesn’t see any action, and Lopez is given a human form that is able to freely communicate with his colleagues. Washington, in particular, is trapped in a combat situation with the main team, who all get gunned down, leaving him as the only survivor. All of them are in the worst case scenario for them individually, and they don’t have any way out. Like before, the only conceivable way seems to be reminding them of where they have to be, and that requires an outside source.

Doc is the only one who didn’t get trapped, so it seems, because he was told to stay behind. This means that Chrovos can use their power to break them into the labyrinth, but there are very high stakes. Since the labyrinth is autonomous and seemingly acts like a virus, it will seek to infect anyone that enters it, provided that they don’t have the power to break free. Donut would have to fight off the sentinels if he encounters them, or free his friends first. Depending on how fast the sentinels act, it could be a race against time- even more so since being able to break into the labyrinth in the first place would require Donut to surrender his abilities as a shizno and the perks that come with it.

However, if they don’t end up destroying the labyrinth, they could easily put Genkins in there. If it was strong enough to trap Chrovos, then it would be strong enough to keep Genkins in there. He didn’t enter the labyrinth himself, but merely dumped the team in there, so it’s highly likely that he’s avoiding it. Once they confront Genkins, that could be an easy way to keep him locked away, especially since he’s now running around with god-like powers.
