Review: Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja “The Prophecy of Hat Sword / Fake Fight For Your Right To Party”
Spoilers Below
“The Prophecy of Hat Sword
Randy and Howard have to read a book in order to pass a test so that the Principal doesn’t split them up, but clearly they have no interest in studying. Book tapes don’t work, so Randy consults the Nomicon whom tells him that the answer to passing the test is in the book. Randy thinks this is the ninja book’s way of telling him to fake a prophecy derived from the reading assignment, so as to convince the Principal to not split up Randy and Howard. Unfortunately, this proves not to be the case and instead the Sorceror turns the Principal into a monster and a battle ensues. However, the only way to beat the blue monster is for Randy and Howard to study and take the test, which they do. The dudes pass, the Principal gets turned back to normal, cue the sunset.
Our Take
I like the fact that the epic battle at the end comes down to smarts. In any case, I always like the episodes of Randy that feature the Principal because I think he’s a laugh riot. This week is no different, even if it’s presented in smaller doses as compared to past efforts. I think I would have also preferred the big battle at the end, but overall a solid episode.

Fake Fight For Your Right To Party”
After Randy defeats a robot, the boys decide to celebrate by going to a party where they think they are the top of the class and show off. Unfortunately, their attitudes get them thrown out so the duo decides to fake another robot attack so as to impress everyone at the party. McFist not only reactivates the robot that was defeated earlier, but he sends four more that then give us almost a Voltron and the ninja has to show up and fight him off. The big bot is defeated, and the boys get into the party the right way.
Our Take
Definitely the episode which featured one of the best fights of the night. We got to see some weapons the ninja use that we don’t get to see a lot. The chain blade, the dagger, etc so that was a nice change in pace. The character design for the robot at the end was really cool, and seemed to be very Asian -inspired which is always a good thing to see in television for the youngsters.
