Review: Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja “Shoot First, Ask Questions Laser / Ninjeception”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Shoot First, Ask Questions Laser

McFist sends a robot to Randy’s whereabouts that blows up and expels some sort of goo that allows the bad guys to track down Randy WHERE EVER he is. Problem is, Viceroy and McFist can only find Randy when he has his ninja suit on which proves to be difficult when Howard and Randy come up with an inside way of winning easy at laser tag. Soon enough, Viceroy and McFist send in robots to Randy’s locale to play some laser tag, but THESE robots are packing real heat. Howard gets stuck between the players that he has hustled with Randy and laser-blasting robots that are going haywire. Randy decides to dress up one of the robots as a ninja, thereby making it easier for the real ninja to destroy the bots and take off running with Howard OUT of the laser tag park. Howard and Randy lose the mega prize they were seeking, and now Randy has to go do laundry.

It is Pranksgiving, so an episode centered around a prank was a smart idea, and the producers did a good job here of incorporating that into the plot. The robots were really a lot of fun, and certainly reminded me of an almost Terminator-esque story mixed with Randy Cunningham. The epic battle at the end was really well done, and Howard had one of his better episodes yet. We didn’t quite get an explanation as to how it was proven that Randy and Howard were cheating, thus being disqualified from winning the prize. But, overall we had a rather entertaining episode.

Ninjeception

Randy is having dreams within dreams within dreams where he’s fighting some sort of monster over the sorceror’s ball. Eventually, Randy wakes up just as he’s about to throw the ball down a hole and the boys take off, but we learn from security footage there was a lot more to the story leading up to Randy falling asleep.

I loved Inception as much as the next person, but Randy doesn’t do that idea justice. The plot seemed sloppily put together and the progression was rushed. We didn’t even get that funny of an episode to try and save it. Truth be told, this was the weakest episode of the duo.
