Review: Our Cartoon President “Visiting the Troops”

No, it’s all yours.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

President Trump has no interest in doing anything that shows any sort of gratitude to the military unless if he can help line the pockets of his buddies working for military contractors. So when he learns that he should probably at least shake the hands of the people that serve our country, Trump goes through a bunch of trouble in trying to learn the proper handshake only to mail it in on the execution in the form of a fake video so that it looks like he’s shaking hands with the troops except he’s not. The President nearly gets away with it, too, until CIA director and probable reason why we’re about to go to war with Iran, Mike Pompeo leaks behind-the-scenes footage that clearly shows Trump was lying to the American people…again. The country riots, but does anybody really listen?

Meanwhile, Don Jr. needs a best friend and he turns to Elon Musk who is looking for funding to complete his Hyperloop project. Elon just needs the bank and Don needs the companionship from a billionaire. Jeff Bezos doesn’t work out, so the duo eventually finds equal footing only to see Elon’s project come to a screeching halt much to the chagrin of the leader of the free world.

Our Take

Christ, where do I begin with this one? How great is it that this week’s episode is all about Mike Pompeo leaking video that potentially shows fraudulent footage and yet that’s exactly what’s happening in Iran right now? When our own entertainment industry distrusts it’s own CIA, maybe it’s time for some change.

In any event, this week’s episode might be one of the best of the show’s season thus far. The show absolutely eviscerates both your typical subjects, i.e. Stephen Miller, Betsy DeVos, and Don Jr., but even Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk get a drubbing this week and their drubbings are hilariously well-written. The show is better when it branches out from the typical targets who are often hit the hardest on social anyway so it forces the writers, in this case, Gabriel Gundacker who smartly wrote his voiced character in Trump Jr. to not hog all the spotlight and instead put more focus on some of Elon’s more notable critiques. The recipe makes for a solid effort.
