Review: Our Cartoon President “Space Force”

Should this series get another term?

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The hilarious cold open isn’t the only time we get to see good ol’ Bill Clinton this week. We see him rather early on in the episode with his bat-shit crazy wife and the rest of the candidates running for President for the Democratic Party who are doing their damnedest to try and lose this election. When Hillary doesn’t work out, Howard Schultz shows up out of nowhere to try and be a threat, only to be sent to space on behalf of Donald Trump’s recently launched and not quite working Space Force which probably cost us trillions though serves a fine purpose by no longer have Schultz on Planet Earth.

Our Take

One year from now we will be witness to probably a huge clusterfuck of a Democratic National Convention and I’m not so sure this week’s episode doesn’t allude to what will probably play out as we finish out the show’s second season. Space Force is a solid idea for an episode and one I had been looking forward to in a few weeks. There were so many ways in which this topic could’ve been exploited, and with this being an animated series, I was half-expecting a crazier climax only to be somewhat let down on what is mostly an Earth-based effort featuring a rather cliched trope of the Don not quite getting to whatever his goal is.

Fortunately, “Space Force” features some of the better one-line jokes of the season, almost as if the writers were saving them for this one. Trump screaming at Mike Pompeo to stay in his lane was excellent, and James Adomian was almost a one-man show with hilarious contributions with his Bernie Sanders, his Ted Cruz, AND his Bill Clinton, the latter of which is a very underrated rendition. I wanted so much more from “Space Force” but it was a really funny episode which has me torn on how to score this. Regardless, you’ll read more about where Our Cartoon President could’ve done better in my season review coming next weekend.
