Review: Our Cartoon President “Militarization”

Is Trump finally going to lose control or will he take too much of it in Our Cartoon President’s season finale?

Overview:

After a failed attempt at reuniting the cast of Bloodsport, Trump is concerned his cabinet no longer respects him. He is convinced that the best way to regain control is through militarization. Though, the more the military controls the less say Trump actually has. It is up to the same man that wanted to rule with an iron fist for his own selfish gain, to end the dictatorship and back to being the sloppy president he is.

Meanwhile, Hannity wants to support his hero president and therefore tries to control the path of the media. He tries to teach the cast of Fox and Friends how to be more aggressive, but they are not as receptive as he would hope. Hannity tries to take over but finds out America cannot stand his rage at six in the morning.

Our Take:

I would like to quickly mention that there seems to have been an error regarding the air dates on Our Cartoon President. What was aired last Sunday as “Militarization” was mislabeled on Showtime and Crave TV? Meaning that this week we received “Civil War”, which is actually the intended “Militarization”. This is the second time the shows have been incorrectly labeled. We apologize for any confusion regarding the episode titles.

“You try and try to make a good dictator and some people have to make it so difficult.” Trump’s line is not only a good definition of this episode but pretty representative of his presidency. It would not come as a surprise if militarization crossed the real Trump’s mind. His ego would require such a thing – that is if he doesn’t already believe he has complete control.

The musical number in this episode was a bit shocking – and, a first for the series. While a musical can often taint the experience of a twenty-minute sitcom, this one was surprisingly funny. Clever quips of things Trump would love about being a dictator, it is hard not to laugh through this sequence.

For a season finale, this was a good finish. Our Cartoon President suffered many ups and downs throughout the year. Some great episodes, a lot of not-so-great ones. This episode seems to have landed itself somewhere in the middle along the lines of expectations. While I did enjoy it, why oh why can they not take the animation to anywhere but the White House. I mean Trump was a dictator, let’s go see that applied in a world situation. I was hoping that this episode would push its self-imposed boundaries, but it played safe. I hope for some improvements going forward because there is so much potential hidden in and amongst this show.
