Review: Nella the Princess Knight “The Taste Race”

Is this episode worth racing to watch?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

Nella and her Unicorn companion Trinket partake in a contest to make the best Ice Cream flavor in Castlehaven. But of course, a rivalry ensues between friends when the two have a disagreement regarding their flavors. Thankfully things eventually work themselves out in the most unexpected way.

Our Take

As a stand-alone episode, It wasn’t as bad as I imagined, and I think the show itself sends a positive message to little girls that they can be just as capable as boys in terms of doing physical things without losing their feminity.

The action scenes excel in terms of pacing and do a good job showing what’s going on without leaving the viewer confused or disoriented. From an animation standpoint, the art style sticks out with vibrant colors equal to something out of My Little Pony, and the character designs also stand out in terms differentiating each individual along with their talking animal-friends. We even get an Obligatory transformation scene when she goes into Knight-mode that feels like a kid-friendly version of He-Man & She-Ra.

As for the voice-cast, the delivery of their lines convey some decent performances. Especially from the child voice actors. I have a feeling they’ll be going places in the future, with the standout being Akira Golz in the titular role, though I do find it strange that Nella’s parents are simply named “King Dad and Queen Mom” do they even have real names?

Overall, If there’s any message I can take that was relevant to this particular episode, it’s that sometimes it’s ok to be into different stuff than your friends, but doesn’t make you a bad person to disagree and respect their opinions.
