Review: Nella the Princess Knight “The Clod Couple”

We’re so Clod.

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

Clod moves in with Trinket while his stable undergoes roof repairs due to a massive screw-up during a game of kickball with giant rock people.

Our Take

Given the rowdy and simple-minded nature of Clod, him being a houseguest for the upper-class neat-freak Trinket goes about as well as you’d expect… The episode attempts to teach kids about proper house-guest etiquette and your left to assume that some time has passed during the course of Clod’s house being repaired.

At this point, it feels like the show has to write dangerous situations for Nella to go into her “Princess Knight” mode much in the same way Prince Adam has to transform into He-Man once every episode but does manage to balance the kid-friendly stuff with well-paced action scenes.

So far, the Animation and colorful artstyle tends to be the show’s biggest strong point. Apart from the previous two episodes that kept inventing new shades of blue, It was refreshing to see some red-glowing scenery in the form of a “Lava Cave” interior where a good portion of the action took place and excels in what it’s trying to accomplish.

Overall, while the Rock people had very little screentime, I’m not really shocked that rock-people exist in this universe at all. The show pretty much establishes other creatures and talking animals existing outside of Nella’s kingdom and the episode did a good job conveying its message about what not to do as a proper houseguest without insulting anyone’s intelligence.
